Wheatpaste posters®, often associated with street art and guerilla marketing, are made from thin paper designed to be adhered to surfaces using wheatpaste glue, a simple yet effective adhesive made from flour and water. This popular technique is widely used by brands, street artists, activists, and event promoters to share messages, artwork, and promotional materials in high-traffic areas. The posters are ideal for creating eye-catching displays on storefront windows, construction fences, and city walls.
Creating your own wheatpaste adhesive is easy and cost-effective. Mix two parts wheat flour (either white or whole-grain) with three parts water. Whisk the mixture until smooth, then bring it to a boil, stirring frequently to prevent lumps. As it thickens, add more water if needed and simmer over low heat for at least 30 minutes. For added adhesion strength, you can mix in a small amount of white or wood glue. This recipe can be easily scaled up or down depending on the size of your wheatpasting project.
